Today, I was invited to Denise Sirchie's home and studio, Mosaics_Northwest. I was greeted at the door by Denise's magnificent Catahoula_Leopard_Dogs. Denise took me for a quick tour of her home, which was chock-a-block with her whimsical work.
Then we went out to her shop.
After Denise got the wood stove going, we explored her very cool space, filled with shards and tableware awaiting shard-dom.
Denise produces work of all scales. There's a photo of an amazing fireplace she did for a spectacular Chinese restaurant (below) She's created an array of decorative creatures. For the bases of these, she often uses found vessels, especially ones that have deco lines... aren't they great. Here's a graceful impala.

ESTACADA Thursday, January 18, 2007
About 30 miles southeast of Portland is the town of Estacada, Oregon. The town was built back in 1905 as a camp for workers building a hydroelectric dam on the nearby Clackamas River in order to supply Portland with electricity. Lumber became the mainstay economic force through the 1970's. The town, pop. 2,700, has struggled for the past quarter century, but has become a desirable residence for Portlanders seeking a beautiful location at the base of Mt. Hood.
In 1992, Hawaii HI, nine professional artists joined together for a local exhibition. This group became the ArtBack Artists' Cooperative. What followed is the production of more than a dozen murals that have made Estacada a destination. Here are a few examples. "The Tree of Life"
This one tells the story of Ginseng cultivation in the area.
